The Belgium pavilion is for sure the building in Expo that makes the largest use of foreign (Belgian in this case) construction materials.
After all, that is what Expo is all about!
Everybody can make a normal building but it is more challenging, rewarding and meaningful to experiment and promote foreign building materials on this stage.
The Belgium Pavilion`s visitor experience starts with a refreshing 9m tall waterfall inside a full-height hall completely covered with green walls.
The path continues through a semi-transparent spiral-shaped ramp to reach the second level, where an immersive experience with some 40 projectors illustrates the technological achievements of Belgium as well as its social agenda.
The restaurant area and roof beer garden are also must-visit features of the pavilion, but what characterizes this project is that it is not by any means, a temporary building.
The quality of the finishes, the state-of-the-art MEP system, the attention to the distribution and functionality, including the back-of-house and office spaces, make it a real piece of Belgium transplanted in Japan.
Also for this reason, together with the client and consortium members, after the end of Expo we are ready to disasmantle the building and transfer to a permanent location as a legacy project.
