Brunei:
This project was entirely contracted by studio dodici, including design and legal supervision, construction, curtains and furniture, Audio Video installation and contents production.
We have 23 years of experience in B2C and B2B contracts but this is the first time that studio dodici established a contract directly with a Government!

The pavilion has an area of roughly 60 square meters on a single level.
The zoning consists mainly of 4 areas:
1) an entrance area with a counter for information / memorial stamp.
The counter is in shape of a giant songkok: the traditional hat made in black velvet used by men in Brunei and other Muslim countries.
Behind the counter, a star shaped shelf sets the scene for geometric harmonies inspired by Islam and offers a display of “bishabs”, the traditional veils used by women in Brunei.
2) The second zone consists of the monumental arc shaped portal.
Full height mirrors on the 2 sides visually complete also 2 “virtual” arcs to the sides and create the illusion that the arcade is extending beyond.
The arcs are created by a lattice made of hundreds of birch plywood slats, cut with a CNC router. The change of floor color enhances the illusion of the portal leading to “another dimension”
The light penetrating the lattice and casting shadows creates the opportunity for memorable photo shoots.

3) the main exhibition area consists of 3 walls used for immersive projection.
The PR-video was filmed on site at the end of march 2025 and is split in 3 sections describing Brunei in the past (museums, arts and crafts) in the present (nature, tourism, food), and in the future (innovation, government policies).
At times, the 3 videos switch to a full panorama video that embraces the users.
The “trompe l`oeil” perspective effect is enhanced by curtains that create a sense of depth. The velvet curtains are inkjet-printed with the “royal yellow” of the flag of Brunei in a subtle color gradation that increases the feeling of height.
An organically shaped grid ceiling hints at the gorgeous natural forests of Brunei.
In the center of the space, a round bench offers the possibility to the visitors to indulge in watching the video content and taking a break, under the shadow of a real “Schefflera Arboricola”, a leafy plant that expresses the vitality of Borneo’s virgin forest heritage.
4) The 4th area is “staff only” and hidden behind a curtain and a door and is the backyard space to hide electric panels, video racks, and tools for maintenance such as a long ladder.
On the way out, visitors can wear a songkok (for men) and a pujab scarf (for women) and take a photo in front of a virtual scenery in the photo corner.
We hope this experience will make you want to visit Brunei!
